Let us explain…

When we met it was literally love at first sight. A few days after meeting we moved in together and have lived and worked together ever since. But, there are only so many flat landscapes and strip shopping centers that you can look at before you go crazy. Though neither of us were born here, we have both lived in the sunshine state almost our entire lives and sometimes you just need a change.

We would have been on the first plane, train or automobile out of the state but we have four very big reasons to stay in Florida – kids!

We have four of them to be exact (Ryan’s bio kids from previous marriages) ages 26, 24, 13 and 11 at the time of writing this. Since we split custody with the kids’ bio moms and their spouses, we couldn’t just up and move, but staying stagnant in South Florida wasn’t going to work either.

Since our jobs are digital and can go anywhere (Emily is the founder of Mugsy PR and Ryan is the firm’s creative director), we realized we needed to renew our love for this state we call home.

While we try to do a larger vacation each year outside of the state, having joint custody has given us an opportunity to explore Florida in a unique way. We do quick family getaways when we have the kids and romantic jaunts for the weeks/weekends when we don’t.

And guess what? There really is so much more to love about this state than we ever realized! Even after growing up here, we are constantly surprised.

Every time we posted about our adventures (Emily has been posting on Instagram for years with the hashtag #TravelwithTaCos) we would get inquiries about where we stayed, how we found the location, and what we’d suggest people experience there. We never really thought about travel blogging though, until quarantine.

All of a sudden the hidden, quirky little getaway areas we have found over the years have become the “it spots” to vacay – far away from the crowds, And that is how Travel with TaCos was created.

We’re excited to share our travel experiences, and help you with your “escape plans” – in Florida and beyond. Over the years we have become quite skilled at figuring out how to have a budget friendly vacations (often for 6+ people), how to balance living, working, and traveling together 24/7, how to manage a full time business from the road, how to have safe and socially distanced vacations and most of all – how to have a good time ANYWHERE – as long as we are together.

MEET RYAN

Ryan was born in the Dominican Republic and made his way to the U.S. at the age of 11, where he moved to Miami and was raised in South Florida. One month after he turned 18, he joined the United States Air Force and was able to see much of the United States. He settled in Florida to be near his kids and began planning all of the amazing family trips he wanted to take with them – and then he met Emily and the adventures really began!

Ryan is the Creative Director and website designer at Mugsy PR. He also works as an event, lifestyle and travel photographer and leads photography tours throughout Florida. His work has been seen in Newsday, Savor Tonight, Travel & Leisure, Boat International, Yachting Magazine and more.
