One of the best work from home perks is the ability to get up and go as we please, but with the schedule of having kids every other week, we have to be creative. Often that means quick middle of the week daycations to nearby locations.
One of our favorite spots to jaunt to (don’t you just love the word jaunt?), is Jupiter. While it feels like another planet, far away from the hustle and bustle in South Florida, it is only about an hour from where we live. It is 2 hours from S. Miami, 2 hours from Orlando, 2.5 hours from Naples - you get my point - it makes for a great day trip.
Outdoor, COVID-safe things to do in Jupiter
There are so many phenomenal places to go for outdoor and socially distanced fun in Jupiter for couples and for families. While we’ve had to be creative about where to visit this year in certain locations, Jupiter is all about nature and outdoor attractions. Most of the dining locations have outdoor seating and people were wearing masks everywhere we went. This is a great spot for covid safety!
For Families

Our Jupiter Favorite
Guanabanas

There are a LOT of super cute little restaurants in Jupiter, but our favorite of all is Guanabanas (960 N Hwy A1A, Jupiter, FL 33477).
Guanabanas is a waterfront restaurant and bar with a full tiki vibe and a big tree in the center that immediately draws you into the rainforest-like tropical paradise. There is often live music, local art showcases, and the best part of all - it is all open air and easily socially distanced, making it a perfectly covid-safe spot to enjoy a meal together.
What to order? Start with the fish tacos. Even before we started this blog, that is what we got every time to begin our meal. You get 2 with an order - made with fresh fish, fresh corn tortillas, pickled onions, queso blanco, cilantro and lime-sour cream. They are a perfect shared app, but big enough that they make a nice light lunch too!
Sometimes we will get the Mango Bacon Avocado Salad which pairs nicely with the Playa Rice Bowl too if you’re sharing. Ryan digs in on the “Darby Dog”, a hot dog topped with pulled pork, cheese, bacon and bbq sauce on a toasted bun, and my guilty pleasure is their key lime pie. Seriously, EVERYTHING on the menu is great.
Where to stay
Once you eat and walk all day, you’re probably going to be ready for a nap. While we usually drive up just for the day, sometimes we will stay overnight and go out in Palm Beach for the evening. While part of my background is in luxury hospitality marketing, since COVID-19 hit, I have preferred to stay in Airbnb spots with no common spaces and the ability to sanitize the space before we spend the night. If you’re going to stay in the area, here are two of our favorite homes to lay our heads:
A cute little couple’s stay with a vintage-nautical vibe, right in the heart of it all:
